Oh Hey Cindy - Winter Skincare Essentials

I always find winter quite brutal on my skin. I naturally have dry skin, so the first signs of cool, dry weather, my skin starts to suffer. It’s taken me some time to find products that would not only address my dry skin but last throughout the day. I have also needed to get used to a new climate. Coming from South Africa, and specifically, Cape Town, where the winters were wet and rainy, the skincare products I used to rely on, were just not going to cut the dry winters here in Hong Kong. Spending more than three years here in Hong Kong, I have slowly built up a list of my OG winter skin products that I can’t live without.

One // Water

ok, this is not a skincare product, but it has such a massive impact on skin. When I become dehydrated, my skin becomes very dry. I also tend to drink a lot more coffee in winter which dehydrates my skin even further. I notice a huge difference in my skin when I make a concerted effort to drink as much water as possible throughout the day.

Two // Elizabeth Arden – Advanced Ceramide Capsules

This one is tricky, there are plenty of mixed reviews online. For me personally, I think this product works well on my dry skin. I make sure to apply the oil as soon as I get out of the shower to lock in as much moisture as possible. The capsules do produce quite a bit of oil and I would only recommend this product to people who enjoy applying oils on their face.

Three // Aesop – Breathless Botanical Oil

Woah woah woah… I LOVE this oil! The smell is incredible and the oil texture is lovely and thick. I use this oil all over my body, and of course immediately when I get out of the shower. I feel like I have visited a spa every time I step out of my shower. The price of this little jar of joy is extremely reasonable when you consider how much other body oils can usually cost you.

Four // Clinique iD

This range from Clinique is so versatile. I love the fact that you can mix and match according to your personal skin’s needs. You firstly need to choose the base – depending on what texture you prefer. I much prefer a cream moisturiser, so I chose the Dramatically Different™ Moisturizing Lotion+. Next up you choose the serum, which will target your problem areas. Because I have sensitive skin, I opted for the Active Cartridge Concentrate™ for Irritation Calm + comfort with Lactobacillus probiotic ferment.

Six // Vaseline Pure Petroleum Jelly

Good old vaseline. I use this for the really tough dry spots on my skin, where exfoliating and moisturising don’t seem to help and you feel like you have face dandruff. After I have applied all my face oils and moisturisers, I go in over the top with vaseline. I tend to do this at night before bed because it does become difficult to apply makeup over and I find it can tend to sit on your skin for a while.
